Kevin Oxley wins 1st prize in Hugh Sawry art award
The Kogan "Innaugral Hugh Sawry Art Award, 2009" was won by Kevin Oxley. The competition was judged by leading art dealer and Brisbane gallery owner, Philip Bacon. The title was "Western Light, an Oil painting depicting the sparse outback.

Oxley was not able to be present at the Kogan festival for the official announcement and receive the $10,000 award from the Qld Governor, but Michael Berry of "Broadoak Productions kindly performed that role on Oxley's behalf because he was in Kogyn to present the first showing of the DVD, "The Life And Works Of Hugh Sawry".
Broadoak Productions also produced a DVD documentary on Oxley's life in 2007 to coincide with his Retrospective Exhibition at the Caloundra Regional Gallery.
Michael Berry and Kevin Oxley both live in the Blackall Range area near Maleny. It was sheer coincidence that Oxley's opening of his own exhibition,"The Windmills Of My Mind" (a tribute to Cervante's Don Quixote) was on the same day, October 3rd.
The exhibition is already a great success and runs throughout October.
