"Life Fractals" in Sunshine Coast Art Prize
"Life Fractals" selected as a finalist from over 400 entries, 2010 Sunshine Coast $15,000 Art Award, to be judged by John McDonald, Art Critic, Sydney Morning Herald on 18th August. All finalists' work to be on exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery, Caloundra 18th - 30th August 2010.
The "warrior within" has been the theme for all my work over the past 4 years. My continuing battle for survival against great adversity has led to numerous other works being created based on the classic stories of Noah and the Ark, Don Quixote and The Warrior. Through creating these art metaphors I do not feel so helpless, It gives me some capacity to fight back and not lay down and accept the negative prognosis I was given.
Whether it is luck, I am delusional, or my approach has bought me more time via some placebo affect will never be proven, but somehow, statistically, I am defying the odds. I am not willing to stop doing what I am doing to find out if it has any real power to prolong my life. This way I feel empowered rather than beaten, and I can take the fight right up to the forces attacking my body and challenge it to head-on.
